The story as created was flawless. Joss Whedon wrote it. I was sold on that. Seriously, give the devil his due; Whedon simply knows how to write his stuff. And this story was vintage Whedon. It had all of his hallmarks: the snappy dialogue, the deft fighting sequences, and the requisite death of a loved one (oh Coulson, you will be greatly missed, but you take your place next to Joyce Summers, Wesley Wyndam-Price, Doyle, and of course, Winifred Burkle in Whedon's "poignant death" graveyard). If one has followed Whedon's career closely enough, one probably would deduce that these Whedon tropes were coming. However, that is not to say the story is predictable. I knew these things were afoot, but I did not know when or where they would appear. And when these tropes did appear, I was either caught off guard or simply reveled in their appearance. Seeing Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) trash talk each other was riveting, as both made decent points. I reveled in that verbal throw down. And who wasn't caught off guard when Hulk gave new meaning to the term "fistbump" with Thor? Hilarious. If you didn't laugh, you have no soul
